Cockroach Control for Homes and Businesses

German cockroaches breed fast and hide in warm, tight spaces near food and water. Treatment has to reach where they actually are, not where they are seen.

German cockroaches do not pause for winter

Indoors they breed continuously, so there is no cold season that thins the population for you. A small kitchen problem in November is a larger one in February.

Cockroach Control

German cockroaches breed fast and hide in warm, tight spaces near food and water. Treatment has to reach where they actually are, not where they are seen.

German cockroaches are the species that causes most indoor problems, and the reason they are difficult is reproduction rate combined with hiding behavior. They shelter in warm, narrow, humid places: the void behind a kickboard, the motor housing of a fridge, the gap under a dishwasher, the hinge recess of a cabinet door. Seeing one in the open usually means the harborage is already populated.

That behavior is what makes surface spraying a poor answer on its own. The insects are not on the surfaces for most of the day, and a repellent applied badly can scatter a population into adjoining rooms rather than reduce it. Treatment that works is targeted into the harborages, which means opening up and inspecting the voids rather than treating the room.

For a food business the requirement is different again, because the record matters as much as the result. Documented service visits, identified risk areas and a schedule that will stand up to an inspection are part of the job. Tell us the property type when you call so the visit is planned accordingly.

Good to know

Questions, answered

I have only seen one. Is that a problem?

It is worth an inspection. German cockroaches are secretive and largely nocturnal, so an insect visible in the open often indicates an established harborage nearby rather than a single stray. Finding out early makes the treatment considerably simpler than finding out in three months.

Will over-the-counter spray deal with them?

It kills what it contacts and usually does not reach the harborage, which is where most of the population and all of the egg cases are. Some repellent products also push a population into adjacent rooms or units, which makes the eventual treatment harder. Targeted treatment into the harborage is what reduces numbers.

Do you work with restaurants and food premises?

Yes. Commercial food work is quoted separately because the requirements go beyond treatment: scheduled visits, documented findings and records suitable for an inspection. Say what the premises is when you call and we will explain what the schedule would involve.
