Spider Control and Web Removal

Spiders follow their food. A property with a lot of spiders usually has a lot of flying insects, and the exterior lighting is often part of the reason.

Spider Control

Spiders follow their food. A property with a lot of spiders usually has a lot of flying insects, and the exterior lighting is often part of the reason.

The great majority of spiders found in Pennsylvania homes are harmless to people, which does not make them pleasant to live with. What tends to surprise people is that the spider population is a symptom: spiders settle where there is prey, so a porch that collects moths every evening will keep producing webs no matter how often they are cleared.

That is why the treatment looks at the insects as much as the spiders. Exterior lighting that draws flying insects to a doorway, damp basement corners, cluttered garage storage and unscreened vents all contribute. Changing what attracts the prey often does more for a recurring web problem than repeated spraying of the webs themselves.

The visit covers the harborage areas: eaves and soffits, porch ceilings, window wells, garage corners, basement sills and crawl space entries. Webs and egg sacs are removed as part of the work, because leaving egg sacs in place is the fastest route back to where you started.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Are there dangerous spiders in Pennsylvania?

The overwhelming majority of spiders you will find around a home here are harmless to people. If you have found a spider you are genuinely concerned about, keep it if you safely can, even damaged, and the technician can identify it. Identification from a description alone is unreliable, and a photograph is much better than a guess.

Why do the webs come straight back?

Usually because the food supply has not changed. Spiders build where prey is, so if the porch light is still drawing moths every evening, webs will reappear. Reducing what attracts the prey is often the difference between clearing webs monthly and clearing them once.

Do you remove webs as part of the treatment?

Yes, including egg sacs where they are reachable. Leaving egg sacs is the most common reason a treated area is busy again within weeks, so removal is part of the work rather than an optional extra.
