Pest control along Boulder Highway

Boulder Highway was the old road out to Hoover Dam, and the east side grew up along it. Today the stretch near Twain Avenue mixes apartment complexes, mobile and manufactured home parks, single-story ranch homes and a long line of motels, shops and auto businesses. Each of those building types lets pests in differently, so the first question on any call is what kind of property you have.

In apartments, German cockroaches spread between units through shared plumbing and wall voids, and bed bugs travel the same way. In mobile and manufactured homes, gaps in the skirting give house mice and roof rats a sheltered space underneath, close to the water and drain lines. Subterranean termites go for wood that touches the soil, such as skirting, wooden steps, sheds and landscape timbers. Crickets pile up under bright lights on commercial lots in late summer, and pigeons settle on signs and rooflines.

The inspection is matched to the property. For a manufactured home that means the skirting, the underside, piers, steps and utility openings. For an apartment it means the kitchen, bathrooms and plumbing chases, and a straight answer about whether the units next door need attention. You are told what was found and what treatment would involve before anything is applied.

Boulder Highway questions

Do you treat mobile and manufactured homes?

Yes. The inspection covers the skirting, the space underneath, piers, steps and every opening where pipes and wires enter. Gaps in the skirting are the most common way rodents and other pests get under a manufactured home, so sealing them is usually part of the plan.

Cockroaches keep coming back in my apartment. Why?

German cockroaches move between units through shared plumbing and wall voids, so treating one apartment while the one next door is infested rarely lasts. Bait placement, sealing gaps around pipes and talking to the property manager about neighboring units all make a difference.

What brings crickets to buildings along the highway in late summer?

Lights. Crickets fly and crawl toward bright white lighting at night and then slip under doors. Warmer, yellow-toned bulbs, door sweeps and sealed gaps at the base of walls reduce how many get in.

Should I worry about termites in a manufactured home?

Check any wood that touches the soil: skirting, wooden steps, decks, sheds and landscape timbers. Subterranean termites build mud tubes from the ground up piers and foundations, and finding those tubes is a reason to call.
