Pest Control in Las Vegas, NV: Russell Road

Our Russell Road office serves the southwest valley around Spring Valley and Rhodes Ranch, where newer subdivisions keep pushing homes out into open desert toward the Spring Mountains.

Southwest Las Vegas

Pest control in the southwest valley

Much of the southwest valley around Russell Road has been built in the last few decades, and building is still going on. New subdivisions back onto open desert lots, rooftops carry solar panels, and backyards have pools, ornamental water features and drip irrigation. A short drive south, Rhodes Ranch adds golf course water and turf to the mix. Newer construction is tighter than an older home, but grading and building on desert ground displaces what was living there.

Bark scorpions are the clearest example. When desert lots are graded, they move into the nearest shelter, which is often a new block wall or rock bed. Pigeons nest under rooftop solar panels, where the gap between panel and roof is sheltered and hard to reach. Subterranean termites find their way in through slab cracks and plumbing penetrations even in new homes. Mosquitoes breed in pools that are not maintained, water features, plant saucers and irrigation boxes, and the Southern Nevada Health District monitors them across the valley each season.

The inspection here covers the whole lot: the roof and any solar array, the block walls and the desert edge behind them, door and garage seals, the slab and plumbing entries, and anywhere water stands. You are told what was found and what treatment or proofing would involve before anything is applied.

Russell Road questions

Pigeons are nesting under our solar panels. What can be done?

Nests and droppings are cleared from under the array, and the gap between the panels and the roof is then closed with exclusion mesh so the birds cannot get back underneath. Scaring them off without closing the gap does not last.

We moved into a new build that backs onto open desert. Is that a scorpion risk?

It can be. Grading displaces bark scorpions from desert lots, and they move into the nearest shelter, often new block walls and rock landscaping. Sealing gaps at doors, the garage and the base of the stucco is the best place to start.

Why are there mosquitoes in the southwest valley when it is so dry?

Mosquitoes need only a small amount of standing water. In this part of the valley it is usually a pool that is not being maintained, a water feature, plant saucers or a flooded irrigation box. Finding and removing those breeding sites matters more than spraying the yard.

Should I call the Russell Road office or the Fort Apache Road office?

Either. The two offices are close to each other in the southwest valley. Call the Russell Road team on (725) 353-4424, or the Fort Apache Road team on (725) 330-8704 if that one is nearer to you.
